Jay Bank, SDC Kentucky

I have worked at the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives for over twenty-five years.  I work on library statistics, county tax rate calculations, the agency’s web site, and anything else that comes across the desk.  My first FSCS Workshop was in year four, Baltimore in 1991.  I have a good understanding of the development of strong data elements as well as a recognition of those that just don’t work.

I would like to see us add additional data elements that capture new technologies, electronic resources and access in the library.  It is an important time of transition for public libraries.  We gather the traditional measures of library use in our survey, but are not adequately measuring emergent technologies, with which libraries are allocating increased resources.

Michael Golrick, SDC Louisiana

Michael joined the State Library of Louisiana in December 2008 as the State Data Coordinator and Library Consultant. In October 2009, he assumed additional duties as the Head of Reference. He is also the “keyholder” for the State Library Agency Survey. He has earned the Francis Keppel Award for each year of his service as SDC, and earned the Lorenz award for service with the State Library Agency Survey.

Prior to joining the State Library of Louisiana, Michael served for almost 25 years as a public library director, with a stint running a multi-type regional library cooperative. He has worked professionally in Arizona, Connecticut, Wisconsin, and Louisiana. He has been active in the American Library Association (including service on ALA Council (1997 – 2012) and the ALA Executive Board (2003 – 2006) and several of its divisions (ASCLA, RUSA, and PLA). He currently is serving as the President of ASCLA (Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies), a division of ALA. He was on the Connecticut Library Association board, including service as CLA President in 1999-2000. He also served on the Wisconsin Association of Public Libraries (WAPL) board.

His undergraduate degree in Religious Studies is from Brown University. He has a Masters of Science in Library Science from the University of Illinois, and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Arizona.

I have had the privilege as serving on the LSWG for the past three years. It has been pleasure to serve, learn more about the process, and improve the experience for SDCs. One of my accomplishments in that service has been working closely with the other Mentors (SDC members of the LSWG) and helping to restructure the Orientation for New SDCs. With the large number of new SDCs in the past several years, I hope that this new training has helped improve our service to the library community. It would be my honor to continue to serve on the LSWG.
